Family Ties

Family
As the past few months have flown by, I have been repeatedly drawn back to what family means to me. It seems sad to me that time has changed so much that family is no longer the center for society. What a stumbling block this is for so many. There was a time when families had to have each other for survival. Both physically and spiritually. Their lives were entertwined with love and heartache, joy and pain, happiness and sorrow. Yet it was those very things that allowed them to pull together and be strong for each other.
We live in a day where, the faster the better. Modern conveniences allow us to squeeze more into our day. Which of course we are told more is better. Faster, stronger, skinnier, more fashionable, smarter, more talented, more money more toys. These are the things that our world seeks after. And yet when they have achieved all these things, these individuals are still left wanting. Why? Because life is bigger than this. Family has been forgotten and so with it the forged family bonds that carry us through the hard times and lift us to a higher levels. When sorrow and pain arise, there are so many other places to turn to that family is not always saught after. We are the 2nd and 3rd line of defense. I want my kids to grow up and be productive happy members of society who are grounded in their beliefs of God and the morals and values that he represents. But I see that what ties all of that together is an understanding of the importance of family. We are here to help each other even when times get tough. Not to turn the other cheek and wait for the convenience of good times. How sad it will be to miss the bonds that come from the bumps in our roads. I pray that my children will have an understanding of families and that they will have relationships forged to last and keep them close long after the days of childhood are gone. That as time goes on, they will have a desire to help one another and overlook faults to see the bigger picture. Heavenly Father knew what he was doing when he designed a world that was set up in families. To my VERY LARGE family that stretches from coast to coast (literally) I love you all. I miss those who are not here as well as those who are here that I don't see often enough. You are what keeps me going. The support that our little family has seems almost unfair. We are undeserving of such yet we are so incredibly greatful for those who overlook our MANY faults. Those who love us inspite.... I pray for each of you that you may be protected, that you will know of our love for you and that in turn, we will have those bonds that will last, and in the end will bring us our greatest joy in the life to come.

Family Ties
Family Ties Are precious things
Woven through the years,
of laughter, love and tears.

Family ties are cherished things
forged in childhood days,
by love of parents deep and true,
by tradition, by family ways.
Family ties are treasured things
and far though we may roam,
the tender bonds with those we love
still pull our hearts toward home.
